29.7. It is true what they are saying… (by Nadja)

1. All of our friends who has built a house said, never again.

But if building a house is so bad, why do people do it all the time?
If giving birth is no fun, afterwards you have another child…
The result is what counts. This is how I started the house
project with Jyrki. Optimistic and thinking let them talk.

2. Costs are always higher then estimated

But I did calculation, excel sheet, timing, project sheet –
since I am an organized person – no problem.
But it doesn’t help – costs gets higher!

And among the rising costs there are also all the time funny questions
appearing from electricians, plumbers e.g.
And even worse: answers are instantly wanted and decision has to be made quick but still thoughtful.

Which leads to number 3. You will always make some wrong decision in the building process.
Again we thought let them talk we have sheets, are informed, structured and decision makers.

But a building sight is its own universe with its own laws.
Although in the German language the builder of the house (who is not
physically building but financing it and then has to live in and with the result)
is called Bauherr (Construction-master). It must be just a psychological trick
to name him so, then he has the feeling to be the ruler, when in fact in this universe
he is lost! And this universe has also a different time zone.

When point 4. comes into play:” The timing will always be beneath”
You understood, we have also timing-sheets, which are nice
when they are hanging some where as sort of a building sight decoration…

It seems building a house is the consumption of life experience in
a very short time frame. Maybe that is why people just want to do it once.
It speeds up your life so much, keeps your stress level so high, that human nature can just survive it once!
